Anybody else learn to code in 2020? While feeling directionless, unfulfilled, and curious, the first serious quarantine project I took on was registering for a 9 month coding bootcamp. Beginning in October of 2020 and concluding in May 2021, I learned how to read documentation, understand code-speak, and develop the skills to teach myself a programming language beyond the virtual classroom. Together with the support of my partner, my classmates, and our wonderful instructor, the skills I learned in the UCR Full Stack Web Development course were invaluable.
TRACK-STAR
TRACK-STAR is a website created to track all your online purchases in one place. Users would create an account to track their packages from multiple retailers all in one place. Utilizing the FedEx, UPS, and USPS APIs, we were able to show current transit status for any shipment with a tracking number. Our system allowed for packages to be input without a tracking number, just to keep track of all purchases, with the option to add shipping information later. The User Interface, icons and logomark were developed in collaboration with fellow teammate and developer, Megan Bryan.
Only Foods
What's the one question you dread answering every morning, noon, and night? "What are you in the mood for?" Sometimes you immediately have an answer. 'Oh, I'm in the mood for sushi' or 'You know what I've been craving? Kabobs!' However, more often than not, you're left answering 'I don't know, what were you in the mood for?' With Only Foods, you swipe through restaurants or recipes with the quick and ease of a modern day dating app. Hit X to keep looking, click the checkmark once you find something you like and want to learn more about. To begin, you decide whether you'll be making dinner or making reservations by selecting between Dine In or Eat Out. With Eat Out, you provide your zip code to utilize the Yelp API and present you with the available cuisine options in your area. Once a cuisine, referred to as a Genre, has been chosen, restaurants within that Genre will be presented as options until a selection has been made. At which point the restaurant contact information and menu would be displayed for easy contact. Similarly, the Dine In option would run you through a similar selection process, with the Sub-Genre category for a more refined search result. Both the restaurants and recipes were saved to a user's profile in a separate folder for easy reference for future use, as well as the ability to delete the saves in case you decide to break up with meat or dairy.
